The value of this scholarship is $5,000 yearly.
About Walter H. Kehm
The inspiration for establishing this scholarship is based on the premise that landscape architecture is a noble profession. Its essence is based on understanding through creative thinking and scholarship about how the human species can coexist with the natural world. The profession is integrative and requires comprehensive knowledge of the arts and sciences. An understanding of climate and ecology at the global and local levels is essential for sustainable design. In parallel, the needs and wants of people and their communities are necessary for the creation of environments that are safe, useful and beautiful.
The intent of this scholarship is to foster research and creative design thinking that addresses fundamental societal issues. Landscape architects can be agents of change by means of their ability to educate and inform people and design with nature in mind. They are also increasingly becoming teaching professionals with their ability to integrate and disseminate cross-disciplinary knowledge to a wide variety of user groups. Mr. Kehm's hope is that the recipients of this scholarship will contribute to society for happiness and health and that the successful recipient will continue to educate and inform people about the vast potentials society must use to live in harmony with nature.
