LACF Scholarships in Québec

There are currently three LACF scholarship offered to students attending U de M.: 

1. AAPQ 50th Anniversary Scholarship

2. Danièle Routaboule Travel Bursary

3. Maglin-LACF Scholarship

The Université de Montréal, Faculté de l'amenagement, École d'urbanisme et d'architecture de paysage offers an accredited program in Landscape Architecture, MLA. The school also offers a BLA program and a minor in Garden design that are not accredited.

1. Scholarship for the 50th anniversary of the AAPQ

Context and description

This endowment fund was established in 2015 under the auspices of LACF to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Quebec Association of Landscape Architects (AAPQ) and its founding members.* This scholarship of $1,500 is awarded annually to a student in the final year of the University of Montreal Master of Landscape Architecture program to recognize excellence in design.

Criteria and award process

School faculty nominate a candidate who exemplifies the objectives of this scholarship. The nomination is reviewed and approved by the LACF Board.

2. Bourse d’études de voyage Danièle Routaboule*

Context and Description 

An endowment fund was established in 2018 by retired professor Danièle Routaboule in partnership with LACF to encourage the creative and professional development of female French-speaking landscape architecture students through the experience of travel. 

The Danièle Routaboule Travel Scholarship is a $3000 travel scholarship awarded annually through LACF. The scholarship is open to candidates wishing to take a study trip related to their concerns on a contemporary issue important in the practice of landscape architecture. (e.g. landscape and environment; landscape as expression and artistic creation; landscape and social issues; landscape and advanced technology) 

This award of excellence will be awarded in recognition of the quality and special interest presented by the candidate's thoughts on major issues in the field if landscape architecture as well as on the quality of their work or research. 

Criteria and Award Process

*  Students must apply. Deadline: 27 February 2023 at 4 pm ET

Female students in propedeutics and in the first year of a Master of Landscape Architecture program are eligible, as well as graduates of a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program who are pursuing further study in landscape architecture at the Master's level.

Students invited to apply for this scholarship are those who meet the following criteria:

  • Are from Quebec with fluency in the French language
  • Are enrolled in an accredited landscape architecture program in Canada with preference given to a student enrolled in a landscape architecture program in Quebec. 
  • Will be entering the final year of their professional program in the semester following award of the scholarship 

A call for interest and applications will be made at the beginning of the winter semester in the year in which the award is to be made. Applications are due by February 27, 2023. A jury comprised of professional landscape architects and academics will adjudicate the applications. The recipient will be announced on March 8, International Women’s Day.

3. Maglin-LACF Scholarship

A scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to one outstanding student studying landscape architecture each year to a student at the University of Montreal, MLA.

Applicants should be:
a) Currently enrolled in the program listed above;
b) A Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
c) Nominated by the faculty; and
d) Demonstrate excellence in their studies.

Note that a student may receive this scholarship in addition to other LACF Scholarships – there are no restrictions on the attribution of the Maglin-LACF Scholarship.
