LACF Scholarships in Ontario
There are currently 5 LACF Scholarships offered in Ontario and 3 accredited landscape architecture schools including the University of Guelph BLA & MLA programs and the University of Toronto MLA program. The 5 scholarships are:

1. University of Guelph BLA
Context and Description
To celebrate and honour the 50th anniversary of the OALA in 2017, an endowment fund was established under the auspices of LACF to create the LACF University of Guelph Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Scholarship. This scholarship of $1,500 is awarded annually to a student in the final year of the program to recognize excellence in both design and academic achievement.
Criteria and Award procedure
School faculty nominate a candidate who exemplifies the objectives of this scholarship. The nomination is reviewed and approved by the LACF Board.

2. University of Guelph MLA
Context and Description
To celebrate and honour the 50th anniversary of the OALA in 2017, an endowment fund was established under the auspices of LACF to create the LACF University of Guelph Master of Landscape Architecture Scholarship.
This scholarship of $1,500 is awarded annually to a student in the final year of the program to recognize excellence in both design and academic achievement.
Criteria and Award Process
School faculty nominate a candidate who exemplifies the objectives of this scholarship. The nomination is reviewed and approved by the LACF Board.

3. Alain Lamontagne (Guelph BLA)
Context and Description
In 2018, the firm of Durante Kreuk (dk) partnered with LACF to create this award in memory of Alain Lamontagne. A graduate of Guelph, Alain worked for over 10 years with the dk team in Vancouver. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture student at the University of Guelph who has demonstrated the positive impact landscape architecture has in the development of social spaces. An endowment fund was established for this scholarship in 2018 with an annual award amount of $1,500.
Criteria and Award Process
School faculty nominate a candidate who exemplifies the objectives of this scholarship. The nomination is reviewed and approved by the LACF Board.
Who was Alain Lamontagne?
Alain Lamontagne was born in Ontario and came to the west coast with a BLA from the University of Guelph to follow his dreams, and build a career. He joined the DK team in the spring of 2007. Alain was greatly appreciated by his colleagues, friends and family. His skills were an asset to any project, providing a legacy for residents in communities throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island to enjoy for many years to come. He was fatally injured in a motor vehicle accident on June 20, 2018. He is missed.

4. University of Toronto MLA
Context and Description
To celebrate and honour the 50th anniversary of the OALA in 2017, an endowment fund was established under the auspices of LACF to create the LACF University of Toronto Master of Landscape Architecture Scholarship. This scholarship of $2,000 is awarded annually to a student in the final year of the program. It recognizes demonstrated excellence in communication and demonstrated strength in leadership, character and participation. The inaugural award was made in 2018.
Criteria and Award Process
School faculty nominate a candidate who exemplifies the objectives of this scholarship. The nomination is reviewed and approved by the LACF Board.

5. Maglin-LACF Scholarship
A scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to one outstanding student studying landscape architecture each year to a student at the following universities:
- University of Guelph, MLA
- University of Guelph, BLA
- University of Toronto, MLA
Applicants should be:
a) Currently enrolled in the program listed above;
b) A Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
c) Nominated by the faculty; and
d) Demonstrate excellence in their studies.
Note that a student may receive this scholarship in addition to other LACF Scholarships – there are no restrictions on the attribution of the Maglin-LACF Scholarship.
6. LACF/Lemay Scholarship
(University of Toronto and University of Guelph, both BLA and MLA)
Lemay and LACF have established a new scholarship of $2,000 per year for the next five years, beginning in 2023. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student of landscape architecture studying in an accredited landscape architecture program in Ontario. The scholarship will be awarded to the University of Toronto's MLA, then the University of Guelph's Guelph's BLA and MLA programs on a rotating basis. Applicants need to be outstanding students and are nominated by the Faculty.
