Peter Jacobs/BC2 Indigenous Scholarship 
LACF awards the Peter Jacobs/BC2 Scholarship to a student who demonstrates achievement, creativity, leadership, and dedication to the empowerment of Indigenous people and landscapes through study, design, research or community engagement. With the generous support of Peter Jacobs CM, and BC2, the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and the Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation established this award to reflect our commitment to supporting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples’ capacity through landscape architecture education and practice in Canada.
Value of the Award
For 2026, the value of this award is $5,000 and, in addition to the funding, the recipient will be invited to the BC2 firm for a unique, all-expenses paid work experience for one week, a value of approximately $3,000.
The recipient of the scholarship will also be extended an invitation to join the CSLA’s Reconciliation Advisory Committee.
Eligibility
Canadian Indigenous students enrolled
in LAAC-accredited/candidacy status landscape architecture programs at any stage of their undergraduate or graduate studies, and Canadian Indigenous students with an interest in landscape architecture enrolled in their last year of an undergraduate programs in disciplines related to landscape architecture (such as architecture, planning, geography, environmental sciences, horticulture, fine art, natural sciences, etc.) are eligible for this award.

- Université de Montréal: Faculté de l’aménagement, École d’urbanisme et de l’architecture de paysage, (Master of Landscape Architecture)
- University of Toronto: Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design (Master of Landscape Architecture)
- University of Guelph: School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (Bachelor of Landscape Architecture; Master of Landscape Architecture)
- University of Manitoba: Faculty of Architecture – Landscape Architecture Program. (Master of Landscape Architecture)
- University of Calgary: School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape (Master of Landscape Architecture)
- University of British Columbia: School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (Master of Landscape Architecture)
Current LAAC candidacy status programs include:
- Dalhousie University: Bachelor of Landscape Architecture
Up to two applications per program may be submitted.
Scholarship Adjudication
This award supports First Nations, Inuit and Métis Canadians pursuing education leading to a career in landscape architecture. Applicants will be assessed based on their past achievement and potential to contribute to the advancement of Indigenous people, their landscape territories and the profession as judged by:
- Their recent academic achievements, as demonstrated by grades and scholarly work,
- Participation and achievement in academic and extracurricular activities,
- Engagement or leadership in community or professional activities.
Students are to be nominated by Faculty of the accredited programs and submitted to LACF. The LACF Scholarship Committee will form a jury to review the nominations and to choose the successful scholarship candidate.
The successful candidate will permit their name, image and biographical information to be used to publicize the award.
Scholarship Application
The nomination dossier will consist of a Faculty statement providing the rationale for why the candidate was nominated and how they meet each award criteria (200 words for each).
The candidate will indicate how they conform to the award criteria (300 words) and what program, activities or actions they propose, and how the award might impact them if they are successful (600 words).
The application will include the nominee’s CV, and their most recent academic transcript.
The deadline for all applications is 30 September.
