1 / AN INTERESTING ARRAY OF (GRANT) PROPOSALS FOR 2019
Applications for 2019 LACF grants are now being assessed, with the winners to be announced early in the New Year. ‘’The Grants Committee is pleased with the high level of response (15) and the quality of the submissions received from both practitioners (9) and students (6) is excellent.” says LACF Grants Program Committee Chair, Faye Langmaid. LACF will award over $20,000 to successful applicants, with individual grants capped at $10,000 and two student grants valued at $2000 each on offer. All grant proposals are adjudicated and awarded by a NATIONAL JURY composed of six individuals representing Canada’s different regions. Meet the Jury here.
Three bursaries are also available to applicants addressing specific topics. LACF hopes to award the Donald Graham Communication Bursary for the first time. It will be awarded to communication projects that promote and advance knowledge about the core values of the profession of landscape architecture. This bursary was established in 2018 in memorium of Don Graham, longstanding practitioner, advocate of the profession of Landscape Architecture and one of the founding members of LACF.
An extensive portfolio of past grant awards is also online. Award winning Grant proposals will be announced in January.

2 / A SPECIAL PROJECT and some SERIOUS FUN at LACF-FAPC
The LACF Executive committee, board of directors and Grants committee all agree that it is time to get SERIOUS and have some FUN. To do so, they voted unanimously in support of a book proposal from two academic authors to the amount of $10 000. The publication is entitled Serious Fun: The Landscapes of Claude Cormier.
After an initial review by the Grants Committee, chair Faye Langmaid confirmed that the proposal met with criteria for Special Projects given its wide appeal, potential broad exposure, national scope and overall fit with the goals and objectives of the Foundation. Funding for this kind of project is up to the discretion of the Board and all members were in favor of promoting a publication about the work of one of Canada’s decidedly unique and colourful figures in the field of landscape architecture today, Claude Cormier. LACF is proud to partner in this endeavor.
LACF funding for this special project will be directed to printing the 2000 copies of a book that the authors claim to be “the first comprehensive analysis of one of Canada’s most prominent landscape architects” and “an analysis of the landscape architect’s evolution, attitude an design philosophy”.

3 / A TRADITION OF GIVING _ CSLA CAMPAIGN OF FELLOWS
Once again and for the 30th consecutive year, the Campaign of Fellows in support of LACF is underway and ongoing until Dec. 31, 2018. The focus of this year’s campaign is on topping up our regional scholarship endowment funds to assist Canadian students of Landscape Architecture with financial awards and recognition. Landscape architects have been the cornerstone of support for LACF over the years. In 2013 and to mark the 25th anniversary of the Foundation, by-laws were amended to permit expanded membership. Now, with an annual contribution of $100 or more, you can increase your support of the profession and the values it upholds by becoming an LACF member.
Your tax deductible donation will be recognized according to categories of giving, posted on our website and included in our annual report. Membership also gives you a vote at our Annual Members Meeting (AMM) held during the CSLA Congress and regular updates about LACF programs and activities.
