LACF Announces Partnership with Indspire to Match Funding for the LACF Indigenous Scholarship in Landscape Architecture
Landscape Architecture Foundation Canada (LACF) is delighted to announce that an agreement has been concluded with Indspire to match funding for the LACF Indigenous Scholarship in Landscape Architecture
Indspire is an Indigenous national charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. Indpire serves First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students in remote communities, rural areas and urban centres across Canada. With the support of their funding partners, Indspire disburses financial awards, delivesr programs, and share sresources with the goal of increasing graduation rates for Indigenous students.
“This partnership is another step in the direction of supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis students to achieve their potential. As Canada’s fastest growing demographic group they stand ready to enrich our country in so many ways,” said Roberta Jamieson, President and CEO of Indspire. “We are grateful for the support of the LACF for the work they are doing to advance the achievement and education of Indigenous students in the field of landscape architecture.”
According to Vincent Asselin, LACF President: "This important scholarship builds on the significant work of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architect's Reconciliation Advisory Committee. It is a demonstration of how, working together, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission can guide the landscape architecture profession in improving awareness and capacity for supporting Canada’s First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples."
The agreement between LACF and Indspire matches the scholarship funds LACF sets aside for the Indigenous Scholarship in Landscape Architecture and ensures a wider promotion of the scholarship within the Indigenous student community in Canada. With Indspire’s support, LACF’s Indigenous Scholarship in Landscape Architecture of $3,000 will double to the amount of $6,000.
LACF’s Indigenous Scholarship in Landscape Architecture was originally proposed by the CSLA’s Reconciliation Advisory Committee and fundraising for the scholarship began at the 2019 CSLA Congress in Vancouver. The Indigenous Scholarship in Landscape Architecture is awarded once annually to an Indigenous student who attends an accredited program of landscape architecture in Canada.
The first deadline for applications is 1 February 2021.
