> A Winnipeg “social” in support of LACF
Date : Friday, June 24, 7:30 onwards
A Manitoban tradition, “socials” originated in small communities across the province where the community would assemble in the local hall to dance, raise a glass and raise funds in a fun and “social” way. The CSLA Congress “Social” will be held in a beautiful setting atop the Assiniboine River on the historic rail bridge.
> Canadian Landscape Portfolio "LAUNCH"
The "Social" will also be hosting the Canadian Landscape Portfolio Launch and showcasing a selection of significant landscapes as perceived and photographed by landscape architects across Canada. The Canadian Landscape Portfolio project, developped under the direction of Jean Landry, FCSLA, was jointly funded by LACF and CSLA.
Tickets: Social tickets may be purchased at the time of registration, or online at the CSLA website. Please visit the Registration Desk for more information.
A CHOICE PRESIDENT
LACF President Vincent Asselin has been nominated this year for CSLA president –elect.
As a past president of both AAPQ and CSLA, as well as a longstanding practitioner on many large scale Canadian and international projects (WAA), Vincent is a man who likes a challenge. With the World Design Summit Montreal (WDSM) 2017 on the horizon, it’s no surprise that he accepted the invitation to stand as a candidate for the position of CSLA president-elect.
WDSM will be a rare opportunity to interact and collaborate with the entire design community, both nationally and internationally, in order to assert our profession's position on the topical issues of the day.” says Vincent.
The LACF Board of Directors proudly support Vincent’s nomination and look forward to collaborating with the CSLA on a decidedly interesting and promising future!
EXTRACTION : UPDATE
photo above taken from Architectrue Biennale 2016 Venice website > http://www.labiennale.org/en/architecture/news/18-07.html According to the CBC reporter Megan Williams, EXTRACTION, Canada's official entry at Architecture Biennale Venice is an exploration of the dark and often obscured role that the mining and extraction industries have played in shaping Canada's economy, cities and identity and in the exploitation of indigenous lands.” The work, a creation of a team of landscape architects led by the forthright Pierre Bélanger, tackles difficult societal issues from past and present. (read full CBC article here)
On opening day, an energetic Pierre Bélanger sent a message to LACF saying ‘’Thank you LACF, you were the first to support and you will not regret this important investment in the first presence of landscape architects at the Venice Architecture Biennale.”
LACF is proud to have provided seed money in the form of a special $10,000 grant in 2015 to support this project.
