The result of a 25-year collaboration between Vlan, Atelier in situ and Uniform (Principal) and Les Jardins de Métis, the development of the Gardens is a unique project in the professional world of Canadian landscape architecture. The research project aims to document this notion of temporality through different axes, including the perennial and ephemeral nature of the interventions, the history and evolution of the place, changes in the living landscape as well as movement through spaces of different scales. The working methodology will involve archival study, site visits, theoretical research that will be synthesized in text and illustrations including photo and video. It will allow to make links between different ideas tested at the Gardens and will pose a critical look on the project, analysing the impact of interventions on a historical landscape and their current relevance in an environment where the means of travel are accelerating and distances travelled are increasing. The study of the relationship of landscape to time and space will also feed the reflection on land use planning in a context where movements have been on hold for several months due to a global pandemic.
