landED is an environmental education program developed by Little Bluestem Landscape Architecture in response to the Call to Action from the LAF. The program introduces landscape architecture to school communities in Manitoba. Resources created to date include comprehensive lesson plans that fit within the Manitoba curriculum, teachers’ introductory guides to outdoor learning, and nature activity videos.
Continuing public engagement from 2020, landED will be presenting virtual, customized workshops to educators and students in Manitoba. Workshops will share the principles of placemaking, the value of outdoor education, and the need for systems literacy. Also addressed will be the physical and mental health benefits of well-designed outdoor space, exploring ways to maximize student engagement with minimal landscape space/availability.
landED supports dialogue between designers and educators by empowering participants with the tools of landscape architecture, as both parties work to create engaging, livable, and sustainable outdoor spaces for the next generation.
Product: landED would build on their current involvement to offer customized workshops for educators at the University of Manitoba and Manitoba Teachers’ Society Professional Development Day and Nature Summit. An article for publication plus the results will be disseminated via social media campaigns. LACF will be acknowledged on the landED website (http://www.littlebluestemla.com/landed).
